PGA Golf Odds Up As Tiger Eyes Abu Dhabi HSBC Champions Event

Tiger Woods will finally tee it up this week for his first tournament of the 2012 golf betting season as the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship event gets underway this Thursday in the United Arab Emirates.

Woods, who currently sits at No. 25 in the official world golf rankings after winning the Chevron World Challenge last December for his first victory in two years, is a strong 7/1 contender on the golf odds to win at Abu Dhabi on the par-72, 7,600-yard course that opened in 1998.
All eyes will certainly be watching to see how Woods performs in his season debut, but it’s Martin Kaymer of Germany who boasts a remarkable track record of success at this event. Kaymer, the world’s No. 4-ranked player and winner of the 2010 PGA Championship, has won three of the past four HSBC Champions events and is the co-favorite at 13/2 odds to make it four out of five.
Kaymer shot 15-under par in 2008 to defeat Henrik Stenson of Sweden and Lee Westwood of England by four strokes, and added a second crown in 2010 by shooting 21-under par to edge Englishman Ian Poulter by a single shot. Last year Kaymer outdistanced runner-up Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland by a whopping eight strokes while finishing at 24-under par.
Despite falling short by such a significant margin last year, McIlroy joins Kaymer atop the betting odds at 13/2, while Westwood and world No. 1 Luke Donald are both listed behind Woods at 12/1 odds. Sergio Garcia (25/1), Jason Day (28/1), and Charl Schwartzel (30/1) round out the Top 8 contenders to win against a very strong field at Abu Dhabi.
